OK Temperature or filtration??
Ok here is the issue.
Had my chiller broke down on me last night. Now this morning I did get a spare but way too small to chill my entire system. So now I have the choice. 1 Shut down my overflow to my sump/Fuge set up day and night till new chiller arrives (Hopefully tomorrow??) so the total water volume would go down, enough to connect the spare chiller to the DT only so I can control the temperature in the DT without filtration. 2 Dont worry about the temperature and leave the entire filtration system working with any sort of temperature control (which could run up the water temp towards 87.8F- 88.5F at the height of the day) 3 Idea would be maybe to run the chiller during the day and open up the overflow again to filter during the night as the night temp of the tank without chiller would be around 83.5F. please advise Last edited by dirk_brijs; 01/24/2012 at 08:54 PM. |

Try running the whole system with the small chiller and add fans blowing across the top of the tank and also in the sump. Just be ready to use more top off water due to evaporation. You will be surprised how much fans could help cool your water.

Run without lights. A few days in the dark shouldnt hurt anything. Or cut the lights down to just a few hours. Or you could just run the actinics if you have them.
