I've had no problems with my achilles at all. Who knows, maybe I just got lucky. It is the only one I have ever tried. One thing about the achilles is it is a very active fish and never sits still. It swims all over the tank and uses every inch of open space for swimming room. It might just be that they need a larger sized tank due to their activity level.

What type of 20K bulbs are you using? I really like the color you've acheived

I run XM bulbs and probably will never use another brand. You just cannot beat the performance, color, and price with their 10k's and 20k's.

awesome lookong aquarium!
Are you using magnetic or electronic ballasts and why? Do you test for potassium levels in the water?
Thanks

I use magnetic ballasts because that is what the XM's perform best with. I do not test for potassium.

They are peppermint snails. They came in a refugium pack from Inland Aquatics. Very cool snails that burrow in the sand, eat detritus, and reproduce readily.

Travis,

Wondering if you have any updated pics on how your monster colonies have grown since the TOTM article?

With caps, they don't seem to fight each other so you can mount them together and see what they do. In the end, I've found that one will always grow faster than the others and take over and shade the others out but this takes a couple years so you can enjoy a collage of different colors until that happens.
