Cool Hightech 150 upgrade!

Hello everyone I am upgrading my tanks pumps and lights to ecotech radions and power heads! My question Is I want to purchase a fairly in-expensive tablet. On the tablet I want to be able to run ecotechs software and be able to control everything wirelessly. Eventually I will my getting a aquarium controller to put on there also. I know the radions cant communicate wirelessly with a computer, but Ive herd you can purchase a wireless usb adapter and connect wire free! What is everyones thoughts on this? Is there anyone running a set-up like this? feel free to chime in!

My utlimate goal is to have all tank info from lights to pumps to log sheet to controller mounted nicely on the wall in a tablet! Thanks for the encouraging words reef264!

The ecotech software looks to be Windows only? If so I don't think you'll be able to find an inexpensive tablet that can run the software. All the tablets I'm aware of run iOS or Android. There are some tablets that can run Windows 7 - but I don't think they would be cheap.

You could get an Android tablet and run remote desktop to your Windows 7 box - but then you have to make sure your Windows 7 box is at least the Professional version in order to even have Remote Desktop capabilities, and the Ecotech hardware would need to be connected to that pc. (There are some android remote desktop apps out there that don't mention the need for Professional, but I have not tried them with my tablet.)

It sounds like an awesome plan - having a tablet by the tank on the wall with all the powerhead and lighting info, and the ability to adjust things easily. I would want one myself! However I think it would be more cost effective to use a netbook or a laptop for the Ecotech software.

Just my $0.02 worth.
