Need help choosing fish for fish only tank
I've been keeping a reef tank for several years with great success, and I've got an empty 46g bow-front that I've decided to set up as a fish-only tank. Given the limited space, I know I'm restricted in what fish I can keep, but was hoping for any suggestions. My setup right now is ~40lbs LR with a Fluval 305 external canister filter, 2 TrueLumen Pro 12k White/Actinic Blue LED strips.
Fish I was thinking of keeping: 2-3 Bartlett's Anthias 1 Flame Angel 1 Auriga Butterfly 1 Lawnmower Blenny Would this community work? Too many fish? Any other fish I could add/change? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

your stock list looks good except for the auriga butterfly. this species should be in at least a 4' tank for enough swimming room. the flame angel will be the nice show piece in your 46g.

I agree on the auriga. My pair are about 7" and almost swim like tangs. They are, IMO, one of the most under-appreciated fish in the hobby. They're hardy, disease resistant (for a butterfly), easy to feed, bold (but not aggressive), not too wussy, fairly inexpensive, and gorgeous. To me, the just LOOK like a tropical reef fish. But, they do need more space than a 46BF.
