Hawaii Themed Tank

So me and my wife are planning a possible honeymoon to Hawaii in the next year or so and I see this as an opportunity to get my wife excited about a tank!

I am just wondering if anyone has done this before as well as any suggestions to this idea I have. Also if anyone knows of a list of fish/corals I could possible get that would be great.

The tank will likely be less then a 50g as well.

40gal would be nice you can put zoanthids, mushrooms, candy cane coral, hammer, torch when i think of Hawaii, i see soft swaying corals (softies)

But if you have never done s reef tank before just freshwater you looking at a big change. A lot more $$$ in reef tanks with special lighting, pumps, skimmers and a lot more things. it some thing you should research for months and months, but in the end it worth it!

It is illegal to export/import/collect corals in Hawaii and thus you'd have to improvise in that department. Personally, I haven't noticed very many soft corals while diving here. Fish I think of are Yellow, Convict, Achilles, Naso tangs; various butterflies (racoon, blue line, lemon, four-spot, longnose goat fishes, various wrasses(saddle, bird, etc squirrel fish; etc, etc...

For a tank <50 gallon you're very limited. I've always been partial to butterflies myself.

I would go there and maybe spend a good chunk of $$ on diving to see for yurself what is out there. Once you have an idea, you can then decide if that kind of tank is for you. Of course, go off the beaten path and go to the fish store and surf shops and talk to people to get an idea of who is who. Of course, talk to a few places, dont just take one persons advice.
