How many fish?
We are sitting here skimming through reef fish pocket guide for future residents of our new tank, we have the Redseamax 250 65 gal with 55 lbs lr. This will be a reef tank. Any idea for max number in this tank?

Completely depends on the type of fish you want. You could put 100 neon gobies in it, but not 100 Yellow Tangs.

Come up with 1 or 2 "centerpiece" fish you'd really like to have, then you can determine what species and numbers of other fish would be compatible.

I'd suggest 4-5 small fish only in a 65 gallon tank, unless you replace water very regulary you will get problems with any more unless you are a very experienced reefer, marine fish need a lot more water than fresh water fish to thrive and it is a lot harder to control water quality in marine aquaria, once the params start to decline it is pretty hard to maintain water quality with a tank full of fish, marine crustations and inverts are very susceptable to ammonia and won't survive, if you intend to keep a peaceful fish community and want crabs and shrimp a tank with less fish has more chance of success, JMO

I'm setting up a 110 with a 29 gal sump. With the sump at 2/3 volume, total tank volume will be 130gal, exactly double that of yours. Mine will have 1 clarkii clown, 1 yellow tang, 1 powder blue, 1 domino damsel, and a goby. Maybe one or two other small fish.
Even with 130 gals, I may be pushing it with two tangs. |
