Tank Water Clairity Question
Hi Everyone:
I don't know if I have a question, but here goes. I just started cycling a 57 gallon saltwater tank. However, the water after two days has an off smell and the water is a hazy green look to it. Is this something I should be concerned about? Size of tank: 57 Gallons Age of tank: 2 days Rock: BRS Dry Rock - not conditioned just placed in tank Cycle Method: Fishless with Ammonia and Dr. Tim's One and Only Sump: 20 gallon Skimmer: Cadlights TIA1220..Not currently on. nitrate: 0 ammonia: 2PPM temperature: 78 F Water source: RO/DI Salinity: 1.025 Alkalinity: Not tested yet Lights: Not on Calcium: Not tested yet Magnesium: Not tested yet Dosing: None Specimens: None I suspect that some alage started growing in the RO/DI in the couple of weeks I stored it in brand new and clean Brute garage cans. Need to know if what I am observing is normal and if not what the course of action should be! Thanks in advance! Rick |

It's fairly early for algae, but I would cycle without any tank lights on. Lights running in the last two days?
It may be a bacterial bloom from the Tims One and Only. The off smell could be organics, but the only real organics should be the ammonia and the breakdown products. You could fire up your skimmer and see if it can pull out the haze. I would not worry too much. Give it some more time.

Sounds like a bacterial bloom which is normal for a cycle.
