How do I make an RODI?

I want to make an RODI since I have a rimless cube my water evaporates daily, it's getting to be an annoyance. What do I need and what kind of equipment do you recommend?

You could buy a good, well priced unit on BulkReefSupply.com

From there, locate a water supply line in your home. BRS should help you find all the fittings you need to hook up the unit.

How about a auto top off system? I think that's what I meant. Something that I can fill with like 5gallons and will atomically keep my water at normal level.

Multiple options.

Look at:
- JBJ ATO System
- Tunze Osmolator
- Autotopoff.com

You can also get a float valve switch and an aqua lifter pump off ebay and make your own.

Or if you have a shelf above your tank you can make a gravity ato.

Unless your very 'hands on' and handy I would suggest you buying a reliable ATO thats been tested and proven. An ATO is one of those things you are worried about constantly about it failing and your tank flooding I really would not be making a DIY ATO unit. I use the Tunze Osomolator 3155 and love it. Us e the search option and you will see it gets great reviews.

Gravity has been pretty well tested and proven =) A standard gravity ATO has less moving parts than a pump driven ATO with float switches so I would argue is less likely to fail assuming there is no user error. Gravity is not effected by a power outage and is always 'on'.

I've used one from autopoff.com, very bare-bones, not pricey, and durable. If you get a float switch that operates INSIDE a seal, no snails can get in to monkey with it. Mine's never failed me: simple principle, just like your toilet, only with an electric line to a pump that does the delivery: float sinks, triggers switch, pump cuts on, delivers water: water rises, float rises, trigger no longer engages, pump cuts off. Adjusting it just means raising or lowering the float cylinder in its little clip.

Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, yellow tang, sailfin blenny, royal gramma, ocellaris clown pair, yellow watchman, 100 microceriths, 25 tiny hermits, a 4" conch, 1" nassarius, recovering from 2 year hiatus with daily water change of 10%.
