aquamaxx hob-1 loud

I just set up my aquamaxx hob-1 last night it has been running for about 18 hours but it is really loud. If I pinch the air hose than it quiets down. Is this normal and will quiet down as it breaks in?

I've had mine for about a year and I think it does get quieter over time. You do have your air hose connected to the muffler right? How did you run the return back into the tank?

I have this skimmer and it is very quiet. Any picture would help us understand why yours is noisy.
