Planning my 40g Long.. ATO?

The tank hasn't arrived yet and it will be my first foray into SW.

I'd like the tank and setup to be fairly self sufficient as the biggest objections I get to "not another tank!" is the rest of the household thinks its something they may have to look after at some point (vacation or what have you). Of course they don't know the first thing about keeping tanks even though I have tried passing on some knowledge.

Anyways, I don't want to spend a fortune, but I need an ATO. The tank will be sumpless so the top up will go directly into the tank, I do have room for a 5g pail in the stand. I was looking at the tunze ozmolator which looks just like my sort of thing being virtually plug and play, the issue is its alot of money for just an ATO.

I looked at the RKL basic but it doesn't come with an ATO and I'm not sure if I could even add one, bare in mind I like plug and play...

What can I do for an ATO that is idiot proof and simple? I don't mind the added functionality of the controller and likely will end up wanting some of the extra features down the road, but I also don't want to spend $400...
