What do you think of this QT method
I found this article about how to qt fish and I think is really easy and simple, what do you think about it?

It seems to go along with most recommendations. The only thing is the time suggested in the article is not enough. |

Seems easy enough and I am guilty of not QT but that's becuase I didn't know any better before I got into the hobby. When I move in a few months I plan on getting a new tank 180g+ and will QT everything in my existing tank including corals.
Why do I read of some people doing hypo treatments? Is this strictly used for the case of treating ich infected livestock? I would like more insight to a hypothetical Q..... Say i impulse buy a fish that is very appealing to me, I go home and have a QT system waiting. Would I want to treat for everything mentioned in the article regardless if the fish looks heallthy or not, or what? |

I wouldn't treat for anything unless the fish is showing signs of disease & then treat accordingly to symptoms. No sense in stressing out the fish more if it isn't sick in the first place. The QT gives you time to observe the fish & then treat as needed instead of possibly taking out your entire DT.

It would suck to buy a fish on impulse and get it home and realize the hard way ANY of the things that could spell disaster for your new fish or the ones you put your new impulse buy in with. ...hmm seems that fish I bought is a predator to one/many of my other fish... ...hmm seems that fish I bought is a predator to one/many of my CUC... ...hmm seems that fish I bought is a predator to one/many of my inverts... ...hmm seems that fish I bought is a predator to one/many of my corals... ...hmm seems that fish I bought only eats live food that is very scarce... ...hmm seems that fish I bought cant compete for food/turf with the others... ...hmm seems that fish I bought is very prone to disease and stress... ...hmm seems that fish I bought generally doesn't do well or live a long life in an aquarium... ...hmm seems that fish I bought likes the water about 7 degrees colder than the rest of my fish... ...hmm seems that fish I bought is going to grow to be way too big for my tank... ...hmm seems that fish I bought likes to jump out of tanks and I have no cover/canopy/tops... ...hmm seems that fish I bought is nocturnal and really only comes out at night when my lights are off so I cant see him ever... ...hmm seems that fish I bought hides in the rock 99% of its life and isnt seen much... and the list goes on... and on... I've even stood in the fish store or in the parking lot of an LFS and researched a fish on my smartphone... Nick
