Algae control
Hey guys, My tank Is just over 2 months old and the back is COVERED in algae. I have tried physically removing it but the algae is super strong and i can barely get it off, Plus the rocks and just the way the tank is shaped stops me from physically removing it to. My phosphate is at 0 my nitrate is at 0, I have plenty of flow and I do not overfeed.
Is there any way to remove the algae. P.s it is also growing like crazy all over the rocks , oh ya and I am running a uv sterilizer ( 66 gallon red sea max ) |

I had algae on my back glass, that was a battle to scrape off. I dosed vinegar and Algaefix .The algae is now gone.

Phosphates and nitrates are probably 0 because all the algae is using them up in the water before you can test for them.
If you feel like trying an algae turf scrubber that will take care of it. I use one and algae has been under control pretty much since day one. What do you have for a clean up crew? What fish do you have in there?

You can also do a 3 day lights out period with the tank covered. Keep everything running just block the light. This might help you get over the hump. I would try this before adding chemicals, especially since a new tank. You will see several shifts before it matures. If you don't have anything in there yet you can give it a couple of extra days even. You can search for the link, but there is a whole thread on the effectiveness of this.

The lights out for three days might fix the algae problem but, will it completely fix the reason that algae is growing? Wouldn't the algae just come back in full force once the lights come back on, since the nutrient problem would still be there? Unless you remove more nutrients or change the way you remove nutrients during the lights off and continue that after the lights come back on, the algae will just come back. Just my thoughts...
