100 Gallon In-Wall System, Summer dreaming 2012
Good afternoon reef central,
let me start by saying this is to be my first build thread on reef central! I've been lurking on the forum for some time now and recently I've started thinking of new system plans. One that keeps popping up in my mind is a 100 gallon in-wall system right in my room. Now that midterms are finished I've had a more time to dream about the system. I've started putting some thoughts down on paper and google sketchup, So far I've only come up with a general design for the system itself. I've attached some diagrams to show everyone what I'm working with here. What I want with the system
These are the main objectives I'm keeping in mind with designing the system. This is a list of what is already available to me for the build Lighting
Next Post is going to be of what I need. As you can see I have lots of equipment already, some would just need to be upgraded (skimmer) Here are the diagrams of The space I have to work with and what I want the finished product to look like from the front side of the tank. This is part of the basement and my room This is a shelving space indented in the wall perfect for the aquarium. This is What i want the finished to look like from front. -Note external overflow. The neat thing I really want to do is build a desk that can be pulled up or put away for when I study. I have that showing in the final diagram. Any questions please ask because it'll start getting me more involved in the smaller details of planning now. -Shaun |

14" isn't much to work with for a double sided tank, Id want 24" as a bare minimum

You're correct 14 inches would not be ideal. the 5 inch wall between my room and the one over would be taken out so a 2' front to back tank could be placed in the wall.
The dimensions would be 48'' long, 24'' width, 20'' high. gives a grand total of 100 gallons for the display tank. lots more room to play with that way. Only thing is that there maybe an electrical wire that runs through the wall but that can be worked around -Note to self: turn off power before destruction. The 70 gall I'm running right now is only 18'' front to back and even that I find to skinny. -Shaun |
