RO/DI water storage help

I have a 50 GPD unit and its painfully slow making water. How long does the water last in a container if i wanted to make it in advance for a later water change? days? weeks? months?

Can it just be covered or do i need a pump for longer time periods?

as long as you have a good lid then it will last a long time. without a lid pure rodi water will attract all kinds of stuff from the air.

Just have a lid on it so no dust/dirt gets in and you will be able to have the water stored for a very long time.

+1 on covering. Mine isn't covered right now and I cringe when I see the dust that builds up on the surface. Also keeping it devoid of light will cut down on any kind of algae growth in there. I don't actually use my RO at one shot (unless doing a water change) so there's a chance for water in there to be weeks old. When I do a water change about 95% of gets pumped to a mix bin so even THEN it's not all used.

Alright i have 3 5 gallon bucks right now all with lids mostly i use one to measure what i'm taking out then the other 2 are for replacing the water. I'll just keep them covered and feel more comfortable not trying to make the water the day before a water change.

How large is your tank?

Why not buy one 55 gallon water bin. Its easier to manage if you have all your water in one place, plus you can hook your RO/DI unit to it with a float valve so it kicks off when ir fills up.

I have a 75 gallon tank so i do need to buy a larger container to store water.

I live with 2 roommates in a 3 bedroom apartment so there is no room for a 55g unless i store the container in the basement that is terrible to access.

I was thinking of getting something along the lines of 20 gallon bin i can store somewhere in the house for the mixed salt and just using the 5g bucket or 2 of pure water for top offs.

Also with the three of us and the girlfriends, someone is always here we can keep up on making fresh water.

Just make sure with 'all those extra eyes' that everyone knows what they are doing. The more people that have the responsibility of looking after the water or the tank just means there is more of a chance for someone to forget something thinking someone else is taking care of it.

just throw alittle powerhead in there to move the water every now and then if u want. the only time i really turn ny powerhead on is the night before i do a water change.
