Chalice and GSP
I have a small one inch square buble gum chalice on a rock which also has green star polyp coming close to the chalice location. Will the GSP kill /sting/damage the chalice? Will they both co-exist? Do I need to move the chalice.

Move the chalice. GSP will overgrow most other corals (hydnophora and galaxea being the two that I've seen fight it to a standstill).
Be careful with GSP, or your tank can end up like this: Kevin

That is what I thought. I was keeping it on a couple of rocks and the back glass but it hopped onto some of my other rocks without me seeing it.
So how do you stop the GSP from progressing when it is on a rock? Take the rock out, let it dry out and recycle in the sump? |

I was wondering though, would the filtration capacity of the tank drop because of this? I guess the tank would be better able to handle nitrates. But what about the conversion of ammonia to nitrite? I figure it would be hard for any colonizing bacteria to live on GSP.

I have had decent luck starting a siphon on a 3/8"ID hose and running it into a filter sock in my sump. using the edge of the hose i scraped at the gsp sucking up the particles right away. This could lead to spreading the gsp, but it has worked for me so far. |
