Need a lot more info about your system to try and help you out. How many gallons is your tank, how long has it been set up, how many fish, corals in tank, do you have a skimmer, sump, how many pounds of live rock, what kind of lighting, how long are your lights on, do you have a clean up crew, what are your water parameters?

Try and emerald crab and some hermits. It worked for me but I got lucky. Maybe try keeping your lights off for a couple of hours.

I would say 16 hours is way to long, 10 max and that's after tank is established . 4 hours is plenty of day light hours and that will reduce your algae issues.

I think having no skimmer and having the lights on that long is your biggest problem

x2 cut the lights back to 4 hours and get a skimmer. as the algae dies off you need the skimmer to filter it out.

your water prob smells like *** also be my guess

once it's gone bring the lights back up to 6-8 hours.

Agreed. Drop the lighting down to 4 or 5 hours per day, and don't run the actinics any longer than that either.

My recent hair algae bloom was brought into check by a combination of my snails, my skimmer finally kicking in (they take a couple of weeks to start to work properly) and a Sea Hare. I bought it from my LFS and kept it for a little less than two weeks. Didn't mow it down immediately, but did start to graze pretty thoroughly. Sold it back to the store for half of what I paid. But I think the larger part of the equation was my skimmer.

Do all of the things suggested but most importantly be patient. I know it is cliche to preach patients but is is necessary in this hobby. It seems like you got a lot going on for a young tank - coral & long periods of lighting. You need to grt that skimmer set up. Your newly established tank is going to go through various stages. Some people (myself included) go through a heavy algae cycle.

That being said, make sure you are using rodi water. If you are, check the tds. Are you running gfo or something to remove phosphates? A lawn mower blenny helped with my algae problem when istarted my tank but truth be told, the algea just started to disappear when it was ready.

Also, just some advice - saying params are pretty normal does not really help find the problem. Maybe your definition of pretty normal and someone else's definition vary. Good luck and hang in there.
