Plumbing to a garage fish room
I am planning to set my old tank back up in a new house and would like to put the tank in my upstairs living room with a fish room in the garage on the first floor. The living room isn't directly above the garage unfortunately so I need the pipes to run over to go down into the garage. Running in the floor may be difficult and I was thinking about running the pipes out the side of the house then down and back into the garage. I could then put some outdoor style of insulation on the pipes to prevent heat loss or gain. I live on the coast and we have pretty mild temperature so it probably won't effect it much. Anyone done this type of thing before? It doesn't need to go to far but it would be really nice to have all my equipment in my garage instead of under the tank. Any ideas are welcome

Probably easier to work from the first floor, removing sheetrock from the ceiling.

Sounds like a serious project!
Unless you go through the outside wall, which would be kind of unsightly and could give rainwater or bugs a way into the house, you would obviously have to go through the ceiling. If you go through the ceiling and/or walls you're going to have to remove a lot of sheet rock so that you can drill holes big enough for the drain and return line. Just be careful not to drill into an electrical line or worse, a water line that's hidden between joists. |

If your furnace is in the garage you might be able to run pipes threw air ducts. It would heat in winter and cool in summer if you use ac.
