Always small particles in water

Ok this is happening in both my tanks. But I'm going to focus on my new 14g BC

SO I had set it up after washing it out with tap water. I cleaned it out really good, then mixed my own water and added it to the tank (pre existing very fine sand and rock) and added a micron filter sock. There will always small particles floating around, even a week after setting up. I tried turning off the powerheads etc, but the particles would just stay stagnant.

After this I took out all the water, and sand, replaced it with coarser sand, and natural sea water. Again, the same problem. What should I do?

Try using some filter floss. Cheap and easy.

This is a simple mechanical filtration issue. Let's be specific about your "micron filter sock". Exactly how many microns is it? The mesh size is rated by the smallest particle that will fit through it. 100 and 200 micron socks are probably the most popular for reefing. I prefer 100 micron socks as they allow only the finest particles through, ones which might make the water silty cloudy but not where one notices distinct particles of debris floating about. The downside is that they fill more quickly.

I suspect your filter sock is at least a 200 micron sock and as such is not fine enough to trap the particles you're wanting to remove.

I tried filter floss. I have it in my other tank. No effect.

Not sure of the micron size, it came with the tank

Stagnant:

Are you sure it's in the water and not on the glass?

I have this same problem as you. Have confirmed its not microbubbles, and Im using a 100 micron filtersock. Anyone got any tips?

I have this as well. I thought it was some sort of plankton. If u shine a flashlight at the water at night u can really see it going
