Rinse GFO with Tap Water?

Is it ok to rinse my GFO and Carbon with tap water before putting it in the reactor?

Yes, that is how I normally do it.

I also have a 2nd pump that I use to rinse tap water thru the reactor itself before I put it back into the sump.

That's what I do. Before that, I let it soak in DI water for an hour or so, I don't have any proof that it makes a difference but my thinking is that there is less absorption of metals, phosphorus, etc. from the tap water if the media are already soaked with clean water.

I dont soak it. Make 5 gal of fresh salt water. fill gfo reactor with gfo and tap water so it doesnt float. Connect gfo back up to system and let the output of the gfo reactor drain in a bucket until clear.

Use the fresh saltwater to replace the water taken out.
