AI Sol blue setting question
Hello,
I just replaced my 150w 14k metal halide with a Aquaillumination Sol blue! I got it attached to a mounting kit and attached that to their hanging kit. It is hanging 12" over my Biocube 29g with the dimensions:L 20 x W 21 x H 18.5. The Sol then is ~30" from the bottom of the tank. The fixture has been over my tank for 5 days. I originally set the brightness settings at W40 B40 R40 but had noticed my maxima clam slowly closing up and some SPS not having as full of polyp extension, making me concerned hence coming to RC. Since then, I increased to W45 B45 R45 and then today to W50 B50 R50. They are on for 9 hours a day. This tank contains all types of Acropora, Montipora, Stylophora, Seriatopora and Pocillopora, and a Maxima clam. I have constantly heard how powerful Sol units are and would not like to bleach or burn anything! Is my brightness seem good compared to the dimensions I have given? I have attached a image to help out! Thank you |

In reading lots of threads, and asking fellow reefers, it seems that starting in the 30s and doing gradual increases of 5% weekly works for many. Look for signs of bleaching and cut back if necessary. I don't know why you want to get to 75% as that number doesn't really mean anything. I'm sure you will find a sweet spot where things are growing well and look good.

Thank you! From hanging 12" above the water line, it looses some of the direct brightness. Started at 40% and acclimated it to 50%. At this percent, everything looks the same compared to my previous 150w MH. 75% is just a higher number that is just a ball park estimate that I am using to represent my sweet spot.
