auto top off options

Ok so im building a 10 gal nano and cut a 4in piece of pvc pipe in half to create a surface skimmer. Now i need to figure a way to set up an ato because i wont be able to fit the hob filter pick up tube and a float switch into the pipe just wondering if anyone else had another option.
