No coralline algae?
My tank has been setup for a month now and no purple coralline algae? Is that ok? I know FOWLR doesn't need it but I am curious water parameters are fine.

I am new to all this, but from what I understand a good light is also needed for coraline algae. I noticed you are running a FOWLR so I am sure the light was not of importance when you purchased it. I would wait until an experience user chimes in though.

Keep alk, calc and mag within their optimum ranges and coraline will grow. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.php

seek it and ye shall come, and then you'll learn to not like it so much.
mine took about 6 months to even start to come in, and then it wont stop as long as your parameters are in check. i scrape the back glass about every 2 months. set up a refugium about 2 months ago and its covered already

Did you have any coraline in the tank to begin with? If not you need to introduce some

If you never had any to start with, it would be good to ask a fellow reefer or your LFS to scrape you off some coraline from their tanks and then dump it into your tank with the filters off so that it can settle on the rocks. This really helped kick start my growth only after I had all the other parameters in check as Sugar Magnolia mentioned.

lighting is not important, good stable water parameter is the key
my skimmer is out sump, and the body is full of coralline algae all thanks to the living room light

lights, good flow and most important calcium.
you will need to seed it also. ask if you can scrape some from the LFS into a cup or something, or buy a small rock with some on it. and be careful what you wish for....the stuff is a pita once it takes off...lol
