air exposure- corals -during water changes
I'm planning out my tank and aquascaping and so forth and I was wondering about air exposure for corals during water changes.
Is this harmful for sps, lps or soft corals? Thanks... |

Not really. Corals in the ocean get exposed to air during times of low tides. Just dont let them go to long and it should be fine. Prepare your stuff for your water change ahead of time to limit the exposure. If you have any sponges make sure they are not exposed to air though.

Some very soft lps corals like bubble coral do not do well without the support of water around them. If they are well deflated, they are easier to move. Almost all sponges should never be exposed to the air. It may take them weeks or even months to die, but most will. Other corals deal with being exposed to air OK, just don't let them 'dry out'. A sprinkle of saltwater can do wonders toward keeping them healthy.

We never have a problem, even with the bubblegum pink sponge that lives under the zoas on the top rock.
