recommended clean up crew

for 34 gallon reef

On new tanks I generally start with a smaller cleanup crew and add to it as the algae and detritus levels naturally rise.
For starters I would go with 6 Nassarius snails assuming you have a sand bed, 4 Asterea snails (I love these guys except they cannot right themselves if they fall over, you have to flip them upright yourself), 6 Trochus snails and 6 Nerite snails.

Great place to order from, but do not just order the 34 gallon quick crew, that will have at least twice what you need with nothing in the tank.

very informative... the 6 Nassarius snailss might be overkill though.. i have read 2 Nassarius' per 50 gallons?? im new so correct me if im wrong. any other suggestions

A great place to deal with. I have ordered from them a few times, and have never had any problems. Always very friendly and helpful. If you do order from them, ask them to take it easy on the Dwarf Cerith's. They always throw in a few more than expected lol.

i agree with comment above, just buy a few snails of different kind. buy more as needed.

One every 50 gallons seems way short, they will come out of the sand and eat algae if they run out of food in the sandbed. That said with this being a new tank perhaps 3 or 4 would be a better starting point.

IMHO I don't think it will hurt as long as they find enough to eat. I have more than the recommended amount in my 75g. I think I have 12-13 Nassarius Vibex in there. I enjoy watching them come poking out of the sand like zombies every time I feed the tank. I feed my fish twice a day and my corals every other, so there is always some little bits to clean up in my tank.

Reef Cleaners is a great place to get them from. I recommend the Nerite snails over any other, they are extremely hardy and do an excellent job at cleanup.
