Lighting for a 10gal QT
Hello there. I have a 10 gallon tank which I would like to turn into a QT for my new arrivals. Currently it has egg crate sitting on 3/4" couplings taking up 2/3 of the bottom footprint. A 50 watt heater, hob filter, chunks of 2" pvc(for hiding and whatnot), and a ph for movement. BUT, the real question is what do i do for lighting this quiet get-a-way? I had an old fluorescent Aqua-Glo 18" T5 but, I would like to keep newly acquired corals in there as well as fish. All at different time of course. Any suggestions? Or should I just place the corals closer to the light if they will be in there for an extended period of time?

Corals are the culprit in making the QT more expensive . Fish don't really care, even an incandescent bulb will do. A 10 gallon is what, 10" tall? I think a T5 HO at 10K or even a CF will do for 6-8 weeks QT. You usually have to put new coral on the sunbstrate first anyway, as they are stressed ffrom transport and need less light.
