Quietest pump for AquaC Remora?
Hi everybody,
Tomorrow I'm going shopping for a quieter pump to run my HOB AquaC Remora. I am currently using a Maxi-Jet 1200, have been for months, and the sound is driving me crazy; nothing I've tried helps significantly and I've heard it's a common problem with the new Maxi-Jet 1200s. So I'm going to buy the quietest pump I can. Currently I'm leaning towards the Eheim 1250, but am also considering a Tunze silence. Any advice anyone? |

I have used both a regular HOB AquaC Remora (MJ1200) and a Pro (Mag3). I never had a noise issue with the pumps...The noise issue that I had was the spray injector noise - I cut out some Foam to fit around the spray nozzle and that quieted the noise significantly. On the NEW edition Remora's with the redesigned spray injector, the company has come out with a noise baffle/muffler for that reason.

Yup, the newer mj 1200's are junk. I don't even know why they still come bundled with the skimmer....
I threw on an older mj 1200 and it was pretty much quiet. You can still hear the spray injection, but there are mods for a baffle, which is pretty much insert a piece of foam in one of the baffles. But back to your question: From what I've heard the original manufacturer still makes these pumps under the name cobalt. I see premium aquatics carries them: http://premiumaquatics.com/aquatic-s.../CA-30003.html I'd use one of these. |
