Waterproof Leds
How do you guys water proof your DIY open wire led kits? Do we even need to waterproof the, because I can hardly find any information on it.

you should be using a glass or acrylic shield to insure that water never touches your LED fixture. It should also be vented properly so that humidity does not cause problems. there are some products like liquid electrical tape that you can use to provide some additional degree of protection. there are also some spray-on products but these are definitely overkill.

How much light and PAR is blocked by a thin sheet of acrylic or glass?

basically none. certainly not enough to even begin to worry about. the vast majority of commercial fixtures have a glass or acrylic shield.
