coral in a cycling tank? (overnight)
Hello Everyone!
I have a 90 gallon reef tank which I have to tear down for a day or two as we are replacing the floors in the living room and the flooring needs to go under my stand too. I have a 55 gallon trash can to hold most of my water and plenty of 5 gallon buckets to hold fish and some corals. However, in my basement I have a currently-cycling 150 gallon tank which, if filled with rock and corals could make this process a whole lot easier. I know it is still cycling (ammonia at .25ppm, nitrites at 0, nitrates at 10ppm) and could not keep the corals (mostly softies and lps) alive long-term, but what about overnight? I am really worried that in my buckets everything would be too close and sting each other half to death. Obviously the space of my 6-foot tank could completely prevent this, but I don't want to kill everything I have with the high nitrates. Suggestions?? Thanks!!! |

Its the ammonia that would worry me. I wouldn't do it.

is that not considered high? I'll be honest and admit that with my 90, since it's been set up for so long without problems I just keep up to date on water changes and probably haven't done an actual water test in about three years . I don't really remember at what point it gets harmful to animals vs just what is naturally present in the system

Thanks for the input everyone, I'm moving the live rock and some red mushrooms to the tank downstairs and leaving everything else in buckets. I'll update you all tomorrow on how it goes

As long as you have flow in the buckets you should be fine.
