Help silencing a Mag 24
My new Mag 24 was a witness to a crime...
I upgraded my sump and pump this weekend. I fired the Mag 24 up and am looking out for low flying aircraft! I have it on 1/2" foam, a section of rubber pipe in the return to dampen vibration and still can't get the thing to quiet down. It sounds like a tea kettle right before it boils and whistles. I actually think it's the water flowing through the pump making the noise. It is submerged in a 40B and has a 1" tee coming off with a bypass valve for future reactors. The bypass is about half open right now. Using the headloss calc it's pushing about 1,700 gph through 1.5" pipe. Any ideas? I'm about ready to wrap my whole tank in sytrofoam. |

That seems super loud. My Mag 24 is super quiet...I can actually hear my MJ1200 over the 24. I have the 24 sitting on a piece of spa flex cut vertically and placed it right under the pump. Works perfectly.

is it fully sumurged because it sounds like it may be cavitating, i have 3 mag 24 running on 3 separate systems and cant hear any of them running unless my water level gets low enough for it to suck air then they will cavitate and you can hear them next door...mine will draw in air if the water level is not at least 3 inches above the pump
also check your impeller closely to make sure its 110% perfect condition (all parts of the impeller/shaft/housing contact points) |
