AquaMedic OR1200 - smells foul...
Strange post - I know
Recieved my OR1200 from AquaMedic. Haven't set up the tank yet but thought I'd unbox the pump and have a look at it (afterall it is German and they are known for complicated machines). Suddenly I got a stout punch in the nose - WOW! The plasticy/rubbery/chemical smell is foul and you have to wash your hands after handling this pump. I thought - well its just from the production process and will subside after a little while - nope. While reading over the box (which says the company is based in Germany but when you turn the pump over it says - made in China) I put the pump on my suede couch and you guessed it, that smell just won't go away. The closest I can come to describing this smell is an electric motor that is overheating and rubber is beginning to burn. Must have been made in the meat processsing/embalming/pump manufacturing plant.... |

Don't ask us, call them. They have offices here in the US and they are very helpful. I've had them help me with parts for both my skimmer and my MH lights.
They have treated me very well. 877 323-2782 http://www.aqua-medic.com/

I didn't mean to panic anyone or expect a solution - but I was wondering if anybody else experienced this issue. Aqua Medic - I found them very responsive also, no complaints about AM. I'm sure the smell will subside in time and I hope nobody was offended by my pointing out the stinky issues... The pump looks very solid and sturdy (like a block of sturdy cheese). |

Hi, I had the OR3500 and mine was made in Germany and had zero odors and ran great. The country of origin yours was made in can have all sorts of things and chemicals in it. I have called the AquaMedic people for parts and they do provide great service and will help you out.

Give it a vinegar bath, it will help.
