ATB 1050a v1.5 vs Vertex Alpha 200
Which is a better skimmer? They both cost $899. I'm just curious as I've never seen neither one in action.

I've had both in the past and they both are great skimmers. I would give the advantage to ATB because they have a much better customer service (IMO).

I'm using an ATB 10.5 deluxe right now and its amazing. My previous skimmer was a reef octopus and that was good but not as good as the ATB. And customer service......I emailed the company a question on a sunday and got a call directly from Victor an hour later. Cant beat the customer service!!!

I try and not to get involved in these threads. I have three ATB's and am happy.

I try to make my posts as objective as possible and not come across with a message that says my statement is absolutely correct. You see so many threads that get locked because of that. I think its great that people have such strong convictions in the product they bought. It always makes for great reading!!!!
To the op....I am sure you will find 10 people that love ATB and 10 that don't. just as you will find 10 that love vertex and 10 that don't making it a coin toss. I would go with the one that you feel most comfortable with and that you think will be best for you system after seeing the responses here and on the rest of the site.

Another question to ask How much is a impeller? How much is a replacement pump? Who do I ask for service? and what is there record. By the way if this is for a 40 gallon tank this thread is pointless.
