OK with all my expensive tangs dead i have a question.

i know leave display tank with out fish for 8-9 weeks but i do have 3 triggers in the display tanks. None of the triggers show ich or have ich that i know of so is the ich feeding on them and will the be a host for another outbreak?

should i pull the triggers out of the display tank or can i leave them in the display tank for my 9 weeks to hopefully kill the ich off?

sad story but lesson learned never buy fish if you know they had ich.

Your best bet is to remove all the fish from the display and leave it fishless for 8wks. That is going to be the only way to kill off the ich from your display tank.

Nine weeks, but this is correct. Your tank has ich, fish simply act as hosts for part of the life cycle and it will not always present visible symptoms.

Def gonna need to pull those fish out. I know how you feel, I have lost 300+ bucks worth of fish in the last 2 weeks from ich. I had to pull everything out of my tank too. It's better safe than sorry. You don't want to wait that long and then put new fish in there for them to get it.

keep in mind that the fish will always have ich even when put back into the display tank. you will need to do a hypo or copper QT treatment on all incoming fish to prevent it from happening all over again later. most important lesson of the day is that ALL untreated fish have ich to begin with, this would account for probably 99% of the fish in the hobby.

you might want to look at what caused the ich breakout to begin with. given all fish come with ich, it is stress that typically causes it to show up at extreme to the point of killing fish. what size tank, how many fish were in it, hiding places, etc?

Not a specific link that I have used in the past, just various searches, etc. And unfortunately, experience dealing with non-stop Ich both freshwater and saltwater

I have gone the Hypo route with my new tank. No issues in the near 2 years I have had it up.

Most fish do not have ich; but I treat them as if they do.

To the OP: I assume you never used a QT, that would be a smart next purchase. You should also read the stickies in the disease section of the forum. Long-term success in our hobby requires a QT and a knowledge of parasites; IMO & IME.

tanks are between 150-220 gallons. it is multiple tank system about a 1000 gallons. i trigger the ich out break by siphoning out the sand i started to put into one of the tanks. plenty of live rock for hiding places in all tanks. and number of fish was low. i lost a Chevron tang, Achilles tang, Sohal tang, long nose yellow butterfly so far. all fish were in quarantine and i was in the middle of a hypo treatment. in the morning all fish looked great i left and came home that night and 4 fish dead. i still have 4 clowns that are covered in ich but sill alive. i introduced the ich by adding 2 clowns to one tank that i got from a club member and he had them in quarantine and said he treated for ich with copper and me trusting someone was a mistake. all of my fish that died and had before the addition of the clowns have been treated with a 12 week hypo treatment so i know where the ich came from.
