How much is too much?

Ok so my bc14 has been up and running since feb. Had a few Issues but everyone on here has been great and helpful Thanks ! When I got my cube, I knew to upgrade to a hydro koralia. So I did that first. The guy at my lfs sold me a 425 instead of the smaller 200 I still have the stock pump as well. Is the 425 too much movement for my livestock?

Depends mostly on the livestock, I don't know what the gph is for the 425 off hand, but if it's 425gph you may have a sand storm in the tank so I would think it is too much.

How much deeper would the ocean be if it didn't have sponges?

It's on the high end of flow, what type of fish and corals do you have?

a 14bc is too small for a mandarin. He most likely will starve to death if he doesnt eat frozen food. 2 month old tank will not have enough pods to feed a mandarin. They eat like 1-2 every second. The flow will be on the higher end for a 14 gallon if its 425pgh... also tank it too young for a RBTA aw well. But sometimes you can throw all the rules out and get lucky.

My rbta has split. And seems to be doing great. I didn't start with this tank. I moved from a 55 gal. So I just transferred water and rocks. the bta has een with me since december. pods are inexpensive And readily available from my lfs. Does that account for Anything? As far as a DIY could I just shave down the blade of my koralia to reduce the flow rate?

You can certainly dose the tank with Tigger pods from your LFS. I beleive they are around $20.00 a bottle but i would think you would need to at least 1 bottle every few weeks. So if you have no issue with the price then its an option to keep your little guy alive.

Some people claim that RBTA split from being stressed or overfed but you will also hear the opposite that they split becasue they are happy and healthy. I have a RBTA and he split after about 6 months of me having him but i got the RBTA from my uncle who has had his mixed reef up and running for 14 years. I would like to think that mine split becasue he was happy since he has been doing great for a long time except he doesnt bubble at all anymore (Maroon clown hosts it) which is another mystery of the species. some times they just dont bubble.

For the koralia- If you have it in the tank and its not a hurricane then you should be ok. Sometimes its just depends on the rockwork ect. I had the same problem as well and got a pwerhead that spit out 1300pgh for my 50 gal and it was way too much but i have heard people that have that range. my tank runs best at about 700gph and all seems fine.
