if you are using a media bag, just put in the desired amount and then run cold tap water through it for a minute or two to rinse out the bulk of the dust.

If it is in a reactor, put in the amount needed and start the reactor pump. Direct the first gallon or two of water into a bucket and discard.

Don't make it harder than it has to be. I've been using these two methods for many years - it's quick and easy, and keeps the mess to a minimum.

and from the brs website
Rinse. Add the correct amount of carbon to a mesh filter bag. Rinse the carbon with RO/DI water or water from the tank to remove the dust created from storage and transport. Avoid grinding the material back and forth as this will cause more dust
I think that answers my question why i couldnt get it to rinse clear

For the GFO assemble the reactor with the media in it. Use a bucket and run 2 - 4 gallons of water through it and into the bucket. I use wc water when I do this. I always fill one bucket with rinse water and then put the reactor online.
