Are ELOS MH/T5 combo worth the price
What makes these lights so good? Are they really that great of a light? Should I go with a 150 watt or 250 watt with my 54 gallon oceanic corner tank? thanks!

Are you looking at a new unit? Mh and t-5 combos lights are very expensive, you do not have enough post to buy in the used section even though you have been a member for over 90 days. There is a brand new Giesemann 150 watt pendulum for sale in the sale forum sub 200 if I can remember correctly, and there is a used Elos MH/ T-5 for about 550 bucks. My Giesemann Infinity 150 4 X 24 T-5 light retails for over 700 bucks.
Corner tanks are difficult to light, Kessil 150 Led has some pendants that are very popular right now with a big thread for info. |

if i where u i will go ati t5 or a led. i have run 2 mh 250w each is way to much heat. now i change to ai i like it alot.
MH = More Heat Heat = Need a chiller or run you ac on summer Chiller = more electric bills Last edited by REEFCANDY; 06/14/2012 at 11:08 PM. |

A little late on posting back. I had MH, 2-250 watt. They were great, coral thrived. I still am not sold on LED. The look awesome, but MH offers a full spectrum that I know corals will grow in. With that said I sold my tank and bought a little 54 gallon corner with Power Compact. The lighting is terrible or at least not up too par for me. The elos seemed to be a nice unit. It has MH/T5 combo. T5 will allow me to run halide for 6 hours a day. I have also wondered if I should just get an nice pendant with a 250 watt metal halide in it. I think with a quality pendant I can get some good coverage in that corner tank. I shouldnt have to worry about heat because i have no canopy and a ceiling fan should disperse heat.
how many post do i need to get into the sale forum? What do yall think about a pendant or should i stick with and elos or that giessman? Thanks, Ray |

Also, my experience is with single ended bulbs. Are singles better than the double ended bulbs?

I like pendants, I use LumenMax 2s and 3's...it is basically a finished fixture. My setup has those reflectors resting in an aluminum frame, with a reefbrite 36" strip for supplements. Not a finished fixture, but looks great and sleek.
You need 50 meaningful posts now to see the forum. You could easily do it within a few days, but just a heads up....mods look for "padding". If you respond to 30 posts with "nice" , "cool" etc...they will not like it Now 30 posts that contribute or discuss anything, even in 2 hours, would work fine.

I was wondering about the pendants becasue they are typically a trapezoid shape, thus there is no room for a SE bulb. I just concerns me that the spread of light will be reduced with DE bulb. Is your reefbrite LED or T5?

Yes, it would, but it might take a day or two for the "system" to register you. Just be careful, I'd be patient and spread it over a couple days. They may wipe all your posts if they choose Dont be active just to get access to the selling forum. If you post a bunch tonight and then drop off, that is no good. Be more active here , we arent that bad....
Reefbrites are finished LED fixtures. Expensive, but nice.

There is a Elos for sale it is about 550 bucks and it is a 150 watt with 4 x 24 I believe, I cannot post it because of my browser but you could not read it anyway but it has been up for sale for a long time. Have you looked in the elos site?

yes, I have look at the elos site. They look like legit lights. I am just wondering if The fixture will be too small. If it is 24 inch fixture and my tank is 37 across, not sure if i will get enough spread of the light?

I believe that creativesmurf is selling the Elos light you will have to look for about 15 minutes to find it. Elos also has some really cool looking pendants for sale and sometimes come up on the used forum for a really good price. The Elos MH I like but is very rare and expensive is the one that has movie theatre color lights that move across the MH bulb to give it a shading effect. Good luck PS my whole family is from OK.

Some of the Elose pendants and reflectors are really good. Though they look a bit like 50's space helmets they contain an awesome parabolic reflector which performs really well. They would perform rather better than the Giesseman or other pendants with similar reflectors.
