Questions On Tank Glass Thickness

Hi to everyone,
Im new to reef aquariums but have been doing a lot of research for my first tank.

Im planning on a 48x20x30 rimless tank, I was going to have a 48x24x24 but the area where I want to site it wont allow that, thus the previous dimensions. Would 30" be too tall for this size of tank? Any comments on pros and cons would be appreciated.

The other question I have is that I have been quoted for a rimless tank that is 48x24x24 1" thick glass all round which seem awful thick. After a lot of internet searching the most I have seen for a tank with that dimensions is 1/2-3/4" Can anybody comment on this? is this a little over kill or is it in fact correct? I realize that increasing the height from 24 to 30 will have an impact on pressure but how much Im unsure

Also if I were to go with Euro bracing would that reduce the thickness dramatically or not make a big lot of difference? IMHO I dont really think that Euro bracing takes away any of the aesthetics attributed to a rimmless tanks therefore maybe that would be a better option for me. Can anyone comment on the width and thickness of the euro bracing fillets?

Ive hunted high and low on web for tank calculators but they seem to be more suited for traditional tanks with rims/bracing. Would be real handy to have one calculator that could do a multitude of different designs

Anyway I'd appreciate any comments advice anyone can give

PS Just noticed after posting that the Date joined says Aug 2007 in case your wondering its taken me that long to talk the wife into getting one ha ha

My 300g is 24" deep. Even at 24" it is hard for me to reach the sandbed toward the back of the tank if I need to move something. I like a shallower tank for this reason.

My 300g (96x30x24) is made with 1" glass. I do not think you need that thickness for a 4' tank.

Could going rimless be the cause of the thicker glass?

Definetly! Euro bracing will reduce the required thickness.
