Stainless Steel Hose Clamps

Hey all, I am in the process of setting up my 125 and have all these clamps I am using. The only one I am worried about is the one on the return pump. I know these things are greasy and it will be under water at one point or another, so other than ordering the plastic clamps how can I clean this so the grease comes off or should I not worry about it?

Just to clarify, you are saying that you have some stainless steel hose clamps and they have grease/oil on them? The first thing you need to do is confirm they are stainless, the old magnet trick will do that. Then if they are stainless all you will need is a little soap to get off the oil/grease and you are good to go. If they truly are stainless they won't rust.

It seems that most stainless steel hose clamps are more semi stainless steel I finally went with plastic clamp on my return because it was under water.

The stainless hose clamps will eventually rust under water. Use either the plastic clamps or zip ties under water.

Yea, i know for sure stainless steel does rust. I have a $400 grill out back with a high level cover and my grill is still rusting. Stainless steel does rust.

i guess I need to find the pladtic clamps. Bite the bullet and order them.

I didn't put a hose clamp on my return pump. The hose was a pretty tight fit on the barbed fitting, and it's under water anyway, so who cares if it leaks a bit.

Stainless doesn't mean it won't rust, it just means it stains less.

Another option is strong zip ties.

+1 on stainless rusting. Especially if you get it at a hardware store, most of the stores around me carry cheap Chinese stainless which rusts pretty quickly. Even if the clamp holds up the screw probably won't and you'll run into what happened to me. Cutting my hand on a rusty stainless clamp while trying to remove it.
