90 Gallon Biological Filtering
I am just getting ready to setup my 90 gallon sps dominated mixed reef tank and I need some input on what to do with the large chamber (40% of the 45 gallon tank) I have in my acrylic sump.
The sump was designed for a deep sand bed using a plenum, but I will be running bio-pellets instead. So do I still do a deep sand bed with the plenum, refugium, or just rock? I have a 10 gallon qt tank I am also setting up with simple HOB filter, heater, and T5 light. |

you can still run a fuge with your bio pellets. thats what ive been doing for the past 6 months. dsb, live rock, cheato, and run bio pellets; everything is fine. fuges are a great benefit for any reef tank.

No rock, no sand, no algae, just keep it clean, and put a large efficient skimmer in that section. IMHO, If you're doing SPS you want to limit the the areas where detritus accumulates. Like LR and sand beds. You will most likely have more than enough biological filtration in the display tank. No need for any in the sump.
