Good deal? Any warnings/suggestions?

Found a guy locally who is breaking down a bunch of decent sized tanks. And is selling EVERYTHING. He has over 300 pieces of coral frags from his tank collections, and is advertising and everything must go type of deal. 95% of his corals are being sold for 5 bucks a piece. I saw pics of a ton of them, and there are some good sized pieces in there. Hes got a ton of different LPS and Softies, and with me just starting my 29g reef a few months ago, I was thinking that I hit the jackpot. I can get a bunch of different colorful frags for very little money.

Whatcha guys think? Did I get lucky?

Can I add a bunch of coral all at once if I buy say..10 frags or so?

If your tank is fully cycled I don't see any issue in adding a bunch of frags, IMO.

I would worry about the possibility of introducing pests into the tank though.

Outside of that, I'd say you hit the jackpot.

I've had the tank for 7 years as a FOWLR...I just converted it to a reef, so maturity isnt an issue. I planned on dipping each frag before it goes into my tank, to hopefully avoid any pests. But I guess I won't be 100% certain what hitch hikes along. Good to know I've found a great deal. Were gonna arrange something for Sunday, I'm pretty excited

Corals present very little bio-load to a tank. Adding as many as you like should not cause a cycle. Careful visual inspection of each frag is important, of course and I would do some research into dipping your new corals in something other than plain water.

I would say go for it. I would suggest quarantining the corals for several weeks though especially if he has had fish recently. Coral frags are one way of introducing ich cysts to your tank. The corals themselves are not infected with ich but may have ich cysts on them if they came from a tank that ever had ich. Dipping would not kill ich cysts, only leaving them in a fishless system for a minimum if eight weeks would do that. Just food for thought. If they came from a tank that has had no fish for at least two months, then you are probably okay with just dipping them.
