3 weeks old? Did you get it from some one else or all setup by you? I had the brownish area too on my sand. Over feeding made it start to grow larger. I was told it was Algae. I had the same algae covering my LR. SO... I got 6 snails (large ones) and they have been working like a champ. They have just started to get in the sand. What are your levels like? How was the cycling of the tank? On flow I would like to know too... I have a 120 with 2x 1400 heads and one MP40 (up to 2500) I think mine might be too low... so I am curious on the answer you get. |

1) diatoms and will clear up as your tank completes it cycles. I had the same question and the guy at my lfs told me that it means the cycle is almost done. Harmless but not pleasant to look at
2) for torch corals have medium flow. Enough flow to get its tentancles flowing without blasting it with a power head. 3) Be paitient in this hobby. Rushing things can cause problems. I learned this one the hard way. |

Neat setup.... Did you start from scratch or was this an existing setup?
1. Diatoms, they are common in the beginning. 2. As long as it isn't in the direct patch of flow, it should be fine. If you notice it is starting to close up or not fully open, then it has to much flow. How much flow you need varies vastly on your live stock, tank size, etc. 3. Go at a slow measured pace. QT every fish you get. and RESEARCH EVERYTHING before you buy, or you'll be tearing your rock work apart trying to catch a pesky fish.
