Could this work.......?
I haven't set up my tank yet and the only equipment I have is the 40B that intend to make a sump/refugium.
These are my questions: 1) Can I use the overflows in the DT to make 2 outflows to the sump? 2)If I can, will I just have to buy plumbing and have it dump into top of DT? 3)If I can't, the "RR" part of the DT houses both in and outflows. With that being said, isn't the flow of water or circulation reduced? [IMG][/IMG] |

Search herbie overflow method... That is what you are talking about with the 2 drains, and yes u would need to plumb back over the top for the return. Not something I would do as ur sump shouldnt be that fast for flow running through it. If so the skimmer and Macroalgae won't have time to do their job. I think. Ost people shoot for 5-10x ur DT. Volume for their sump flow.
The question is y are u doing this? If for noise go with the herbie, if for circulation get a few power heads inside the tank. Btw I also like to go skimmer/return/fuge, with the return line plumbed back into the fuge to control flow better.

OK. The reason for this would be more circulation. Would this be too "noisy"? I've seen sump designs with the return in the middle and plumbing T'd off. I didn't really like it IMO. So, I could still use this design but just add a few power heads? Or use the standard in/out flow of RR with power heads?
Sorry if my questions are redundant..... brand new and don't want to make any fatal mistakes. ::searching herbie method:: |

This is going to be quietier and safer because you would be using 2 drains versus 1(Herbie method). It's all preference of what you wanna do.
