Ideas for very quiet in-sump return pump

My wife is really tired of my Mag pumps. I have two 1800 pumps on my 250 gallon total system. They comprise of 3 total tanks. They are very loud from her perspective. As we say, a happy wife is a happy life.

Anyway, I was looking at the ATB Flowstar pumps. What do you guys think? Need around 3000-4000 gph range of flow to keep things consistent with present set up.

Alex

You can't beat the quietness you get when you are able to move your pump out from underneath your DT and into the basement or the next room like a garage. That may not be an option be is worth mentioning.

I had used a mag 7 when I first started - a bit too loud and my girlfriend at the time made me switch it out. So I bought an eheim 1260 in 1999 and had used that one right up until about 2 months ago when i switched to an ATB flowstar 1500. The eheim wasn't bad, but there was a louder hum/vibration that annoyed me. The ATB flowstar is SILENT!! For the first time in almost 15 years I have a truly silent tank!

If you have to go with an in sump pump, I can't give the ATB enough kudos!!

Aren't the atb pumps Laguna based like red dragon? I have never owned a atb pump, I have a red dragon 12m3 which does 3k ish gallons at 6ft head and it's very quiet. No comparison vs a mag pump. I had a mag 9 years ago and w/o a doubt these newer pumps are far superior. I feel mag pumps are pond pumps for a reason, they are to loud to be in a house. My mag36 you can hear 10-20 ft away.... It's outside for emergency pond draining

Another option is the bubble blaster pumps. I switched from my red dragon to a bb5000 due to the red dragon being to much flow for my tank. Bb5000 is silent.... Not sure on the larger 7000 and larger pumps

I also have a Bubble blaster 2000 for a skimmer and it too is very silent, quieter than my eheim 1260.

The Laguna Max Flo 1500 is identical to the ATB 1500 except for the union on the output and the base plate. I have one and it is nearly impossible to hear, super efficient and relatively cheap. It's a tough pump to beat.

I run an Atb 1500 and it dead silent and no heat issues. Like Bigkahuna said, the atb is a laguna pump. The max flo 1500 should be a cheaper in price.

Man what a response. Thank you guys for your response. I would love a pump that is in another room, but I can't do plumbing to another room and most houses in California don't have basements. Again thank you for your responses. I will check out all the pumps you guys mentioned.
