Very Timid Tangs in QT

I have been QT my two new fish for the last 2.5 weeks. I have a 2" Yellow Tang and 1" blue hippo tang and both have been eating like pigs. They eat everything i have put in (pellets, frozen, and nori sheets).

My DT is not aggressive at all but when its feeding time its a full out frenzy and I have a feeling this will freak out the new tangs. They wont even eat when im near the tank. I have to back away like 4' before they will come out and eat.

The two tangs in QT freak out all the time and hide over the slightest movements. The seem to freak each other out at feeding time and then they both go hid in the PVC pipes i have in there. I am worried they will not get any food in the DT because the food only lasts a few mins when i feed because they are all pigs and eat it all quickly.

I have a 180 gallon with 3 blue chromis, a ocellaris clown, 3 pajama cardinals, a 6" Naso tang, YWG, Lawnmower Blenny, and a skunk cleaner shrimp. The only one that shows any aggression is the clown but all she does is chase the chromis away.

Should I wait until they are less scared before I move them to my DT or should I move them at 4 weeks as long as they continue to look healthy. I have not treated them with anything and so far they look perfect.

I'd keep the tangs in QT for at least 4-6 weeks to continue observation. This will allow you to fatten them up a bit, and for them to get more comfortable around you.

The fish in my 180 are pretty aggressive during feeding time, but everyone gets his share somehow.

Thanks. I think thats what I am gonna do as well. They do eat like pigs so I am sure in another 4 weeks they will be nice and plump.

Yeah, and you need about 6 weeks to be sure you haven't bought some parasites with the fish.

I love tnags. They are the reason I got at 6' tank.

They will get timid again when you put them in the DT due to the new surroundings, but they should get over it fairly quickly. Aside form the 6" naso, nothing in your DT should intimidate them. Although your new tangs are small, tiny actually at 1" and 2", I've found my naso to be a policeman or an enforcer. He stops any fish that tries to be a bully. Usually it's the blue tang that gets disciplined LOL! I have a feeling your naso will be protective of your new tangs, and the new tangs will get big fairly quickly.

As an aside, and this is just my opinion, since I have 4 tangs I prophylactically treat all new fish with hyposalinity. Regardless of how healthy they look. I would strongly suggest this for you, especially since your new fish are tangs. Tangs are ich magnets, and healthy looking tangs can hide Ich very well in their gills.
