Question temp/chiller help!

I'm currently cycling my tank. I have an all-in-one system (redsea max 250), which means an enclosed system. I read and read about this system and many who own it had to get a chiller, but some didn't have to. I was hoping i would be one of the few who didnt, but the tank has been running for 4 days now and the temp reads 84.6. It has climbed all the way to 86, but with the hood semi-open, fans running, and ac running, it only gets down to about 82.

I guess I just want to comfirm what I already know, I do need a chiller dont I? I eventually would like to own corals and i know temp is particularly important for corals.

thanks for any feedback!

I'm curious about this tank. Does the heater have an adjustable knob on it?

Generally you want to keep the tank at 82 or less. The ability of your livestock to survive temperatures higher than that are complex, depending on bio-load, water ph, your equipment and the specific livestock you are keeping. Things can go bad very quickly at 84 degrees so if you think your water will end up in that range I would opt for a chiller.

Thanks! And now (in a matter of an hr or so) the temp is at 85.1. So yes, I must get a chiller. Does a chiller also minimize evaporation?

The heater is off and the temp is still 85 degrees?? Can you feel the actual heater in some way to make sure it really is off? Maybe unplug it just to be sure. What is the temp like in your place?
