high density polyethylene

Hi,

does anyone know if this material is dangerous to marine life? Considering it for a sump.

High density polyethylene is commonly used in opaque plastic milk and water jugs so as long as it doesn't have any added anti-bacterial agents it will be fine.

Most of the time its OK but sometimes its not. Not all hdpe is the same. You have to look out for antimicrobials and or mold release agents.
