Almost anything can live in your sump, your refugium in particular can host many organisms that would not survive in the DT due to competition with the livestock kept there. You do want to be careful with snails that could get to and slow flow to your pump or anything that might devour your pods (if you are relying on pods from the sump to help feed the DT fish.

I wouldn't put anything in the sump other than equipment. I never have cleaned my sump either, as sponges, tunicates, and pods and such will start growing down there on thier own which adds to the natural filtration of the tank.

what's the best way to add pods to the tank / sump? my rock took much longer to deliver and wasn't really "live rock" as a result... so no pods. I remember my old tank many years ago crawling with them and I really miss that... I heard you could buy some pods only to add to a tank? is that right? anyone done that successfully?

You can buy Reef Pods which contain live copepods or you could probably even buy a small piece of live rock and drop it your sump, chances are their will be some on it. Should be able to find Reef Pods at a LFS or reefcleaners.org sells them too.
