Radion or Vega...........

Just wondering what the majority would choose and why? I am able to get a radion for $550 (two months used) or wait and get the vega hopefully in about two weeks when it release. What should I do..........

If I had to choose, I would choose to wait. We really don't know much about the Vega so unless you live your life being trendy and just buying whatever seems like the "in" thing, I would wait Until this fixture is actually released and in some some people's hands. It has been almost a year since it was announced and given AI's track record of releases in the past, I would wait. The Vega may be a good fixture, or it may not, we only have AI's word on what it is. It makes sense to wait and see.

go for the radion at 550.. try it out for a couple weeks until the other comes out.. if you dont like the radion.. u could easily resell it for what you paid for it.. my 2 cents

I have no idea what the vega is, but I was not AT ALL pleased with the look of the Radion compared to the ReefTech. Not even the same ballpark with regard to the appeal of the light output. Coral growth, I have no idea.

I agree with Jack...I would wait as well though my reason is a from experience with the Radion. IMO both units use too much color and not enough whites and blues. Im afraid they have gotten a bit too RGB happy and moved away from what really grows and helps coral grow and thrive.

At $550 the Radion won't cost you anything to test drive it IMHO. If you aren't happy you probably could even make some money and sell it for a few bucks more, they seem to go for $650ish used. Nothing beats trying the light over the actual tank and if you can do it w/o a cost too, unless you decide to keep it of course, you that's a win win in my book.

I agree with BigKahuna and NoHidn, the radian @ $550 is a steal. I would definitely take it at that price. You could definitely sell it for the same price at a minimum.

I agree with all of the above. LOL.

1. $550 is a great price and worth the test drive.
2. AI sucks in terms of launch dates, but it may be worth waiting if you're not in a hurry
3. Multi-color LEDs in general aren't there -- yet. No one has found the magic formula for what looks right and is proven to grow coral.

If price isn't an issue, I would also look into the new Profilux LEDs.

The Radions can do all the colors the sol blues can do but have the versatility of more colors, which is pretty much what the Vegas are designed to do as well. I've seen sol blues in person, among other LED's, and it really comes down to a matter of taste and preference. I personally like being able to mimic 12-14-18-20k etc. spectrums but that doesn't mean everyone cares to do that. If your sol blue's "blow away" the Radions what exactly is a Vega going to do more for you if you prefer only blue and whites? There is nothing wrong or right with liking only blue/white but I have a feeling once the Vega drops many AI fans are going to get RGB religion . I don't really want to derail the thread into AI vs. Radion but like I said above if you can buy a light for less than market value it makes it an easy proposition for a test drive and nothing beats seeing a light over your own tank to judge for yourself.

I was looking at new led too. In the end I ordered three of the new ghl mitras. I liked that they have a good mix of colors and two whites instead of just cool white. How they work out is something time will tell once I get my hands on mine

While I disagree with 550.00 being a steal, I would certainly look at the unit (Radion) before buying...Do you have a local club near you? See if anyone local is using the Radion that you could look at and play with...

There's more to the Vega than just the new colors, 80 degree optics, wireless support, new controller, etc. Actually if you want to forego the reds and greens there is an option with only white/blue, where they have added Olson Deep Blues (at which point you basically have a SOL Blue, proven LED fixture, on steroids). The LEDs are running a higher wattage too. Not to mention you can build you own pucks for it with any colors you want - major awesomeness right there. So even if you don't like the colors you have, you can swap them out down the line when they introduce new colors or figure out better combinations. Not sure that's possible with the Radion.

Vega looks pretty d@mn sweet. Of course, LEDs are like computers, as soon as you commit to something - a new, bigger, better version comes out. Even the Radion is getting an upgrade soon.

I personally would rather have a Vega than a Radion, but I'm a SOL Blue owner and am VERY happy with not only the lights, but the service and support from AI.

Either way, if you got the Radion a sweet upgrade is coming sometime. If you got say a SOL Blue, you can upgrade to the Vega as well for around $250 - but with that you also get the ability to interchange pucks and customize colors.

I would wait. I have a Radion and before getting the second one that I need, I will wait and see how the vega does.
