california blackworm company

does anyone have any experience with this company?

Ive done a lot of research lately and i have to get on the blackworm team after reading everyones reviews and successes with blackworms. The only problem is i dont have a local source for them.

The site definitely looks homemade so im just curious if they are reputable. They also provide containers to help keep the worms alive.

Thanks for any help!

Do you have a link? I know of Aquatic Foods (blackworms-direct.com), which is a local company (to me) that provides blackworms to all of the stores around here. I've met people online who have them ship to them and all have been very satisfied. When I was in to discus I knew a few hobbyists who had them automatically bill and ship worms to them each month.

I've never heard of "California Blackworm Company" though.

Same place. On their sites' home page, they title themselves as the California Blackworm Company for some reason. By the way, I've ordered from them several times and have been very satisfied. Just make sure you have a place to store them [like a 'frige and an understanding spouse] and don't order too many. A quarter pound lasts me a more than a month.

I order 3/4 lb from them every 4-6 weeks. I ordered the worm keepers, but found them to be more of a pita than they are worth. I jsut split my order between two 1 gallon icecream buckets and rinse them well daily.

They do not make the fridge stink unless you forget to rinse them.

I don't think they'll live at room temp, I've heard of people keeping them in a cool basement.

I keep mine on fridge door next to the butter, change out the water every 2-3 days and they live till I use them all up. No odor from them.

I use just enough water to barely keep them all submerged, you could probably get away with leaving the top layer exposed since they sometimes climb on the side of the container out of the water.

I barely keep them submerged as well. Maybe 1/4" under the water. (refrigerated) I usually change the water every other day or so. HTH.

FWIW, my LFS gets a shipment of worms every week. (a big bag) He keeps them in a sink you might find in a garage, only there's a stand pipe in the middle. It's always draining while the faucet is on a constant drip. (24/7) The worms are about 1' under water. Sometimes he gets a good batch, sometimes he gets a bad batch. The worms I got today didn't look too good, not like the ones in the picture anyways.
