I have a purple and a sailfin in mine.
People say these crazy sizes for any tang, but the same people post, Great tank, when the tank of the month has three tangs in a 4' tank. Keep rockwork to a minimum and you will be fine for years.

That is not good husbandry.

There is quite a difference between what "can be done" and what "should be done".

If you are just wanting confirmation of a bad stocking choice, I am sure there will be several who will give you that.

i guess its all up to who wants what when there seting up a tank.yeah you cant put a tang in a 10g but every week lps get shippments in of fish and they sit in 1 cubic ft tanks tills someone buys them.and if they dont sell that day or week there there till death.atleast if someone buys them they can give them a bigger home and take care of them better then pet shos or fish stores.if you have a 75g-250g i doubt people want to fill it with a bunch of little fish that dont grow big and hide.for that just go freshwater and spend 200 and stock your tank.saltwater is for the person that loves the ocean and wants to bring it in there home and make it better then the ocean.its realy like any animal, its wild cought breed and the offspring is call captive breed and stuck in cages for the rest of there life.yeah there taken care of but every animal still has wild in there dna.its called a hobby because you get to do something with it and enjoy it.and just like any hobby things happen and lessons are learned.it makes sence on one side and then it doesnt.just like the saying goes."you cant win for loosing".

You are going to do what you want to do. I'm not sure why you asked.

Threads like this are so incredibly depressing to me, and embarrased to be a part of a hobby that has so many people who think this way.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Tangs grow very fast. Saying you're gonna keep upgrading as they get larger, doesn't work. You can't upgrade fast enough.

i asked to see who had any ideas of what tangs would be ok with eachother and how many can you put in a 125g and fish be happy.instead i get the oh you cant put a tang in a 125g has to be bigger.oh you can do just one.oh only the ones that dont grow much.i get that.if you buy small and they out grow the tank why cant you trade them for other small tangs.they do it with sharks.but tangs arent ok.i know im only a yr into this hobby and done tons of reading and trying to do the right thing with my tank to keep it up and running for yrs.i seen many tanks on here and other places that are beatiful.from 75g all the way to swimming pool size and everyone just about has a blue hippo tang, naso tang, etc and they are commented on how nice there tank is so i guess the little guys new to the hobby should just sit back and say nothing, ask nothing and show nothing because if they do there microscoped.it is what it is.thanks to those who did try to help and those who had some good info me.hay reefing.take care all.

Since I know we are not talking about live ones I bet 300, if you chopped them up maybe 400 . It really just depends on how big they are.

according to the sticky at the top of the forum
A yellow tang is fine for a 5ft Tank - and there are species, suitable for a 4ft Tank (Tomini, Kole and others)

issues are being confused a bit on this thread

scenario 1 - someone comes into the forum and asks opinions on what Tangs are suitable for their set up - answers based on opinions, experience etc are given

scenario 2 - a TOTM is awarded to someone who may not have stayed within the generally accepted guidelines on tank sizes for Tangs

in general the people who may express opinions in a scenario 1 situation, indicating that A Tang is not suitable in a tank of that size , do not make a habit of interupting a TOTM thread by posting the same comments about the stock selection

that would be rude, and rudeness is not encouraged.
