Existing Mag12 or iwaki upgrade?

Hi everyone!

I have a Mag12 pump and am thinking if you would use it, or "upgrade" to an iwaki md-55rlt. I've been told the mags are power hogs, but at 110w for the mag & 184w for the iwaki ( straight from calling iwaki), there is no savings. I was concerned about heat dissipation off the mag, and the noise from the iwaki. I know the mag is silent.

I'm not rich or anything, but would you run the mag til it breaks then buy a replacement, or get an iwaki and skimp somewhere else?

Mag is an internal pump and will heat the water more directly than the Iwaki. I wouldn't switch until you had to though.

If the Iwaki is going to be in an enclosed cabinet it will heat the water quite a bit. I had one running my 75 and the heat from the fan heated the water ~5degrees. JME

Yeah... I'm probably just going to use the mag12 for now. Cheapest option for 1200 gph at this point. Everything will be in an enclosed cabinet... Never thought of the heat from fans adding to the tank temp... Thanks for the heads up. I did purchase two 3/4" sea swirl wavemakers so I'm hoping those plus a few hydor ph will be enough for my 210.

I use an Iwaki MD40RLT on my close loop and did not notice any temperature increase, but my stand is vented.
I can hear it, but it is not as loud as my MP40's and more quiet than my Reeflo Snapper. For submersibles, I prefer Eheim 1260-1262 for strong, quiet and low heat transfer.
